Trekking expeditions, adventure travel, Asian culture & philosophy by Chan Joon Yee

Namaste! I'm not sure how you found this website, but if you're new to Knapsack Treks, let's just say that I started uploading my travel pics and travelogues since I first got on the internet in 1995. My brainchild became as instant hit. It inspired some people to start adventure travel. It encouraged a few who stopped to start again and interestingly, I received emails from people who wanted to join me on my trips.

Thus, I managed to form groups and led trekking/climbing trips right up to 2003. Then, family and financial constraints forced me to give up on trip organisation. After giving up on commercial trip-leading, I hosted my website on a very low budget. All my old traveller's tales, articles and pics had to be taken off. As a result, the popularity of my website (used to be knapsack.net) plunged into a lightless abyss. Many of the the regular visitors to my former website were lost foever.

Recently, I found a host on which I could not only park but actually host hundreds of domains on one account. That's when I decided to revive this site and bring back the visitors. Unfortunately, my trips are going to be much fewer and shorter in the forseeable future. Filling this site with new content is not going to be as easy as before. There are 2 ways to solve this problem.

One is by inviting writers to contribute their writeups and pics. Having edited a newsletter for an adventurer's club, I know that contributions won't be easy to come by unless I pay people like the magazines do. Since I can't afford to do that, I probably won't rely too much on this option. That doesn't mean I don't welcome contributions. If any of you consider it respectable to have his or her work appearing on Chan Joon Yee's website, by all means submit your works to me. You can communicate with me through my Yahoo group. Just sign up or access the group by clicking the messages icon.

The other way to generate content would be to change the nature of the content. I'm thinking that instead of just dwelling on adventure topics, why not get more down to earth and share some fitness tips with the uncles and aunties who are visiting this website. I'm just a city-dweller like most of you. I have a full time job that is pretty sedentary and I'm in my 40s to boot. How do I stay trim and athletic without expensive gym memberships? How do I find time to exercise with 2 kids in tow? What do I eat? What nutritional supplements do I take?

From now on, this site will be less about backpacking and more about health, exercise and other related issues. Cool or not, that's the best I can do at the moment. Updates are going to be much more frequent from now on. Happy reading.
