It’s the last day of school and many parents must be wondering what will keep their kids occupied. For those of us who work full time, it’s going to be real headache. Children above the age of 12 would probably hang out with friends and kill time loitering around Orchard Road. The libraries would be quite empty, that’s for sure. But what about the trails around Bukit Timah, MacRitchie and other nature reserves?
I’ve always believed that you’re never too old to hike. I think rather than just sit at coffeeshops and talk about politics, stay-home grandparents can take take turns to take the kids (including those not their own grandchildren) out for hikes when the trails are not so crowded – like on weekdays. Cycling, swimming and kayaking trips can also be organised. How’s that for a change?
