Flyers are fast becoming an ineffective way of advertising. Too many people are giving them out and many of us are sick and tired of having these thin, printed papers pushed in our faces whenever we emerge from a building or reach the end of an escalator. The job is robotic and monotonous. In the past, people just took them and kept them as “rough paper”. Nowadays, most of us who see people distributing flyers are more likely to reject than to accept them.
I was coming out from Harbourfront MRT station today when a young lady approached me and earnestly handed a flyer to me. She even smiled. I practically ignored her and went on to take my breakfast at Seah Im Food Centre. After my breakfast, I head off on the same path. She recognised me as one of those who rejected her. This time, she seemed determined to make me accept the flyer. She practically stood in my path and gave me the sweetest smile I had seen all morning.
I took the flyer. It would have been very cruel not to. Anybody needs a personal trainer?
