I’m not sure if news of the earthquake has reached Singapore, but this website is my only means of communication at the moment. I presume not that many people are interested. I just wish to document this just in case…
The good news, no aftershocks so far. We’ve gone back into our hotel rooms. The crowds on the streets have dispersed. Apparently, the most severely affected area is at Tagong. Yes, one of the places we intended to visit this morning if not for the rowdy drivers. I’m not sure whether it’s my luck or my karma. I guess sometimes, bad things can happen for a good reason. The little one had a very fast and effective lesson on earthquake survival.
So far, only one fatality has been reported there. A window that has been dislodged during the quake hit a 70-year-old lady and killed her. Judging from the number of ambulances being dispatched from Kangding city, I believe there are some injuried people over there. It seems that only Tagong has felt the aftershocks. Kangding airport suffered from the quake, but the runway was not damaged. However, it seems that the train services between Chengdu and Kunming has been suspended pending checks on the extent of damage on the railway lines. The tremours have been felt as far as Ya An and Chengdu.
We’ll be getting out of the most vulnerable area tomorrow morning. We’ve enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, showered and getting ready for bed. Can only pray for a safe night.
Join Yee, glad to know you and your son are safe. We heard the news earlier and sent U sms. Take care, friend.
Thanks for your concern. Any reports of the quake in Singapore? Power has been restored in Litang. I can post here now.
Good to know you are OK. Take care. Wish you safe travel.
We’re far from Kangding now. Just a small issue with the sudden rise in altitude, but everything is under control.
