I went on two treks on this trip to Kyrgyzstan. The first was a 5-day trek (on foot) from Karakol to Ala Kul Lake starting from the Jeti Oguz Valley. Don’t let the modest altitudes mislead you. While AMS may not be an issue here, the distances are great and we averaged 9-10 hours of trekking every day except for the last day. The trails are wild with plenty of stumbling and scrambling. I’ve made 2 videos to document this very arduous trek.
There are two major “obstacles” on this trek. The first is the 3800m Telety Pass and the second is the 3900m Ala Kul Pass. It was summer, but there was plenty of snow and ice, making the going tough and somewhat treacherous.
The second trek is a horse trekking trip from Kochkor to Song Kul Lake. It’s a lot less strenuous, but the scenery was still quite spectacular.
