Gunung Agung 3031m according to Google, is the highest mountain in Bali and also the island’s only 3,000m peak. Increased volcanic activity put a temporary stop to climbing 2017-2019. For NDP 2022, I decided to climb Gunung Agung. Though Gunung Agung’s altitude is modest compared to many of the other 3,000m peaks in Indonesia, climbing Gunung Agung is definitely not a walk in the park. In fact, it is more challenging than many higher peaks.
There are quite a number of routes up the mountain. You can get details on the Pura Pasar Agung and the Besakih route (which I took) over here. Below is a video taken by my guide when I was approaching the summit ride.
The next video is a complete documentation of my climb of Gunung Agung, reaching the summit on 9 August 2022 to wish all fellow Singaporeans a happy National Day.
