Sumber Brantas means source of the Sungai Brantas, the longest river in Java. It is a big agricultural district with altitude ranging from 1,600m-1,900m. It also sits between two 3,000m peaks, Gunung Arjuno 3,339m (named after Hindu god Arjuna) and Gunung Weilirang 3,156m. The village sits conveniently southwest of Weilirang and almost due west of Arjuno.
Going east from Sumber Brantas, is a high pass between the two peaks. It’s a wide alpine meadow named Lembah Lengkehan 2,911m. With this spot as high camp, it is relatively easy to bag two peaks at one go. However, there are at least 2 other 3,000m “minor” peaks in the area, Kembar 1 at 3,037m and Kembar 2 at 3,113m. Both can be climbed with short detours along the way between Weilirang to Arjuno.
Below is the 3D view of the awesome landscape. In spite of the apparent “convenience”, it’s clear that it will not be a walk in the park. NDP 2024?
