The so called “risky vacations” are still very much niche market. The once thriving nonprofit clubs and societies running these expeditions are now dead or dying. I’m not sure about the uniformed groups like scouts but even the schools are now outsourcing the planning and organisation of these activities to commercial entities.
Of course there is nothing inherently wrong with this, but commercial entities will, especially in post COVID times, try to maximise profits. Will this compromise the safety of participants who are always looking for bargains?
