We’ve all had calluses and blisters on our hands when we did chin ups during NS. Not being a spring chicken anymore, this aging adventurer would like to make his workouts more comfortable, but after hunting high and low, I have not been able to find a good pair of gym/biking gloves that can cushion my palms and brace my wrists well when I’m doing chin ups or dips.
Quite by accident, I found what seemed like the gloves I was looking for while shopping around at Sports Direct, KSL in JB. The M size gloves fitted me quite well. They cost RM55 and yes, I paid for them, so this is an honest review.
There is a Velcro strap at the wrist. You can almost tighten it as much as you like. The most important part of the glove is the palmar surface. It’s lined with a silicone material, just a couple of mm thick. The inner lining is a synthetic fabric. If you look closely, you may notice a breathing hole at the centre of the palm.
On the chin up bar, these gloves provide excellent cushioning effect. I did not feel my skin being abraded at all. 2mm of silicone does the job. There is just a little bit of slipping between the inner lining and the palm during movement. I’m not sure if that could be eliminated if I had worn a size S.
